USD Opera presents Haydn's rarely performed "L'isola disabitata," or "The Desert Island," along with favorite opera scenes by Mozart, Gluck, and Cimarosa.
"The Desert Island" (performed in Italian with English supertitles) tells the story of Costanza who believes her husband Gernando abandoned her and her younger sister, Silvia on an uninhabited island. After 13 years, Gernando, who had been abducted by pirates, returns to the island with his friend, Enrico to rescue the sisters.
Haydn's charming opera is complemented by scenes from Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and "Così fan tutte," as well as Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" and Cimarosa's "Il matrimonio segreto."
