Giants in the Earth

The Clay County Historical Society, Vermillion Cultural Association, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting invite the community to a free screening of the opera Giants in the Earth, presented by SDPB.

Based on Ole Edvart Rølvaag’s landmark novel, Giants in the Earth tells the story of Norwegian immigrants settling the Dakota Territory, exploring themes of migration, identity, resilience, and the emotional cost of building a new life on the prairie. This Pulitzer Prize-winning operatic adaptation brings regional history to life through music, storytelling, and powerful performances.

The evening will begin with a panel discussion at 6:30 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m.
