Prentis Park, along Baseball Field
Calling all community members! Come to Prentis Park (20 Prentis Avenue) on April 27th at 12:00 p.m. to celebrate this year’s Arbor Day by joining Vermillion’s Parks and Recreation Department for a Tree Planting Ceremony on Prentis Avenue, along the baseball field!
In 1985, the Arbor Day Foundation named the City of Vermillion a Tree City USA community in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Vermillion achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
We are pleased to announce that this year will be the 33rd year in a row that the City has upheld these principled standards! The Parks and Recreation Department Director, Jim Goblirsch, has announced that the City’s Tree Board will again this year be making available a limited number of trees for $25, and is encouraging all citizens to contact City Hall for the tree program guidelines.
Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values and commercial activity are among the many benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities. So keeping this in mind, and in the everlasting spirit of Arbor Day, please join us at Prentis Park on the 27th and be a part of the continued enhancement of our beloved community!
