The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library invites you to spend an evening on the Lewis & Clark Trail with writer and speaker Nelsen Petersen. In June, 2018, Nelsen and sidekick Dean Shissler (both from Nebraska), embarked on a modern-day adventure following the footsteps of America’s greatest explorers, Lewis & Clark. Beginning in St. Louis, Missouri, the pair traveled along the Missouri River through the Dakotas, northern Montana, over the Continental Divide, and down the Columbia River before reaching the Pacific Ocean two weeks later. Equipped with the modern day conveniences of GPS, electricity, and an automobile (well, sort of!) the duo set out to learn what it might have been like to explore America’s West in the early 1800s. What they discovered was a new appreciation for Lewis & Clark, Sacajawea, and the entire Corps of Discovery. The story is a true American classic told with humor and insight. We invite you to RE-discover Lewis & Clark! Copies of the book “Selfies with Sacajawea” will be available for sale for $20! A donation of $5 will be made to the Vermillion Public Library for each book purchased.
