Everyone is welcome. The April program will focus on the condition of trees in Vermillion. A 30 minute documentary entitled: "Trees in Trouble, Saving America's Urban Forests". This film documents how one city is responding to the imminent tree crisis caused by invasive insects such as the Emerald Ash Borer.
Vermillion is an attractive city partly because of its tree lined streets and shaded yards, but the majority of trees are becoming old and many are being removed. Few trees are being planted to replace the ones being lost.
In addition to the fact that many of our trees are old, is the concern that 30% of the trees in Vermillion are Ash trees and threatened by the oncoming Emerald Ash Borer invasion. Discussion after the film will focus on Vermillion and what we want the city to look like in the years ahead. Information about how residents may purchase reduced price trees through the Vermillion Tree Board's "Re-Tree Vermillion Campaign” will be shared.
