Vermillion Area Arts Council will celebrate the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special community event, “The Art of American Diversity” on Monday evening, January 15th, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Washington Street Art Center, 202 N. Washington Street .
The event will feature an exhibit of visual art from Vermillion school children and adults, which will open on Friday, January 12, 4 to 6 p.m. and will remain on display for the Federal Holiday event.
The event on Monday will begin with a community potluck supper at 5:30.
Ballet Dancers from the Vermillion Area Dance Organization will present a “Diversity of Dance” performance at 6 p.m.
Lamont Sellers, Associate Vice President for Diversity at the University of South Dakota, will speak at 6:30.
At 7 p.m. the audience will hear readings by Paul Sneve, SD Poet Laureate Lee Ann Roripaugh, Marcella Remund and Gabriel Mambo.
The event is free, and open to the public. The VAAC cordially invites all who live in Vermillion and the surrounding area to come and join us in celebrating the diverse cultures that contribute to our uniquely beautiful American mosaic.
