Abolitionist Entanglement: Animality, Racial Capitalism and Ending the Grammars of Capture. In it, Che will discuss the film Killer of Sheep and the growth of animal programs in prisons in the United States and how it is via the animal that the incarcerated becomes human/citizen again. They connect the caging and mass killing of animal life, the caging and mass killing of Black life, and the racial capitalism that propels premature death are connected in a deadlock of racial capitalism and the prison industrial complex. Black radical practices of abolition provide a way to think beyond, towards ending the grammars of capture of human/animal and criminal/innocent, free/incarcerated and imagine a vision for all creaturely life that does not hinge on unfreedom and sovereignty as measures of life.
For the workshop, participants will think collectively and in breakout groups with guiding questions about topics related to incarceration, Racial Capitalism, and the Prison Industrial Complex.
